Quilling Glue
I often get asked what type of glue I use for quilling. I bought a big bottle of acid free white (dries clear) wood & paper craft glue 10 years ago. It lasted so long I didn't realize it became an aged bottle of wine. It had slowly thickened, so when I dabbed just a bit and pressed two quilling strips together, it was quickly bonded.
The inevitable happened and I needed to buy more. I bought the typical kids' school glue and was mortified by the liquid ease it came pouring out. No wonder others had complained about quilling taking so long to set!
That new bottle quickly got shuttled off to the nephews and I hunted for a similar wood & paper craft glue I had lucked upon the first time. I found it at Opus (Canada) or you can also get it at DickBlick (US). It's not as thick as my aged vintage decade old glue, but it's certainly closer than anything else I've found.
What's your favorite quilling glue?

Thank you very much for the information, Cecelia! We all know the importance of glue for quilling. I personally like Aleene's Tacky Glue, but will definitely try the type you recommend when I have an opportunity to buy it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Inna! I LOVE Aleene's Tacky Glue. It's just like my aged bottle - thick and creamy.
DeleteThanks for letting us know about Aleene's. I've wondered what that's like. I've seen it at Michael's so maybe I'll try that one too.
ReplyDeleteI use Aleen's Tacky as well....works great for me but you have me thinking about the wood and paper glue at Opus. Next time I am there I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteAh, two votes for Aleen's Tacky. Now I really gotta try it. Thanks Cheryl!
DeleteThank you so much Cheryl! I'm a new fan of Aleene's now too!
DeleteI've been switching around lately, but always seem to come back to a clear (to start) liquid rather than white glue because I find the clear stays liquid longer. The white glue gets a "skin" on it rather quickly when I've placed a little puddle of it to dip from on a plastic lid. Martha Stewart All-Purpose Gel Adhesive is the brand I'm using now and it grips the paper pretty fast.
ReplyDeleteOh I've never thought of trying gel because I assumed it would be wetter. Yes, white glue congeals quickly, especially during summer. Good thing Michael's just came out with new 50% coupons. I'm going glue hunting. Thanks Ann!
DeleteThanks to all of you. I've been using the Elmer's glue that comes with the beginner's kit and have been disappointed because a little dab doesn't hold the paper enough and more than a dab spills out of the side and ends up leaving white yucky film on my beautiful butterflies :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear this post helped you cofesq! Yes, the brand I was disappointed in was Elmer's, which was so watery it practically warped the quilling strip.
